What is a doula?
Doula comes from the greek language. It means “woman’s servant.” A doula is a constant, caring companion for the mother and her partner during childbirth. The role of the doula is to offer tips for comfort, relaxation and position changes to the laboring mom thus giving confidence to mothers as they travel the road of childbirth and mothering.
Will a doula enhance my childbirth experience?
Yes. Providing continuous love and encouragement reaps huge benefits for the whole family. Studies show that the mere presence of a doula during childbirth can increase a couple’s satisfaction with the momentous occasion of their baby’s birth. The doula can educate parents on the choices that they may have to make during childbirth. She can provide information and evidence based research that will benefit parents in making informed decisions. A doula is also trained in various coping measures to help ease the mother’s discomfort and the father’s fears. The physical support of a doula contributes to the emotional well being of mother, baby and father during the post partum period.
